My Go-To Snack Ideas That Go Beyond the Free From Aisle
Let’s be real snacking as a coeliac can be a struggle. I often find myself defaulting to cupcakes, biscuits, or whatever’s in the free from section… which is usually full of sweet treats and not much else.
While there’s nothing wrong with the occasional gluten-free cupcake, I’ve been trying to snack smarter and more healthily, without sacrificing flavour or fun.
If you’re feeling stuck in a snacking rut too, here are my top gluten-free snack ideas from healthier picks to indulgent options, all coeliac-safe and mostly available in mainstream supermarkets!
Popcorn
A classic, naturally gluten-free, and easy to grab-and-go. Great for movie nights or quick work-from-home breaks.
Protein Bars
Perfect for an energy boost or post-gym snack. Coeliac-friendly brands I love:
Kind Protein
Trek Flapjacks
Nakd Bars
Eat Natural
Snack Bars

Tastier than your average granola bar and gluten-free too! My faves:
Deliciously Ella
Bliss Bars
Buttermilk (bonus: some are dairy-free too!)
Nuts & Crunchy Snacks
For when you want something savoury that isn’t crisps.
Graze BBQ Crunch – My top pick!
Aldi BBQ Crunch – A great budget-friendly version
Love Corn – Super crunchy, naturally gluten-free
And of course, a handful of plain almonds or cashews never fails!
Pop Chips
A lighter alternative to crisps but still full of flavour. Great for lunchboxes or road trips!
Eat Real Lentil Crisps
These are a must-try! Gluten-free, vegan, and seriously addictive. Check the free from aisle usually easy to find.
Schär Gluten-Free Pretzels
Crispy, salty, and perfect when you need a satisfying, savoury snack. I always keep a pack in my bag!
Fruit
Don’t underestimate the power of a banana 🍌 or some grapes 🍇. Naturally gluten-free, refreshing, and perfect for on-the-go.
Rice Crackers
Light, crunchy, and perfect with dips like hummus or guacamole. Flavours like sweet chilli or barbecue are especially good. Try Sainsbury’s own-brand!
Rice Cakes
Versatile and filling. Enjoy them plain or try coated versions (like chocolate or yoghurt-covered ones) for a treat.

Bonus Tip: You Can Still Have Biscuits & Cupcakes!
Of course, if that’s what you fancy go for it! Just balance it out with some of the healthier options above when you can.
